“The Defenders” is a Netflix miniseries that unites the Marvel characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Iron Fist. It continues the story being told in
Iron Fist. The event that brings the four heroes together is the fact that the leader of the Hand (Sigourney “Ripley” Weaver) has resurrected Elektra as a weapon, the Black Sky, and is seeking to capture the Iron Fist.
After the heroes come together, the police, led by Misty Knight take custody of their friends. The Defenders go up against all five fingers of the hand, as well as the Black Sky. They slowly discover that the pit under the Hand’s headquarters, previously discovered by Daredevil, contains something that the Hand desperately wants, and that the Iron Fist is important to them getting to it.
Because no one character is the focus of this miniseries, the characters don’t evolve much during its course. On the other hand, its fun to see them all fighting together. The side plot dealing with the friends of the Defenders is weak, and as usual, Misty Knight comes off as a complete bonehead.
As far as I’ve heard, Jessica Jones season 2 will be the next Netflix Marvel series. Hopefully it will be good.
