For Halloween, my family got to

gether and watched the Conjuring. This film is loosely based on the accounts of Ed and Lorrain Warren, real life paranormal investigators. Regardless of the veracity of their claims, the story makes for a good horror movie. There are a lot of jump scares, but there’s also some truly creepy horror. Vera Farmiga (Norma Bates in Bates Motel) and Patrick “Night Owl” Wilson play the Warrens, turning in good performances along with most of the diverse cast. The early 70’s setting is captured believably, and the aging Rhode Island farm house is suitably creepy. Altogether, a well made horror film with some nice scares.
