Safe is a Netflix crime drama starring Michael C “Dexter” Hall as Doctor Tom Delaney. When his daughter Jenny (

Amy James-Kelly) goes missing, Tom and his neighbor, policewoman Sophie Mason (Amanda Abbington) begin searching for her. The search leads them to a murder. Then, through twists and turns, red herrings false starts, the mystery of Jenny’s disappearance is slowly unraveled.

Hall does a good job as an Englishman. The writing is predictable in places, but the plot is convoluted enough to keep it interesting. Some good supporting work, particularly from Marc Warren as Tom’s best friend Pete, and a love triangle between Tom, Sophie, and her estranged husband Josh (Emmett J Scanlan) flesh out the series. A recurring and effective tool is the continual retelling of the beginning of the story with additional details.

I found some of the drama (particularly between the teenagers) a bit tiresome. The predictability of the writing in was a little annoying. Overall, this is a solid crime drama. I’m not sure it will get a second season, and not too worried to see it if it does.
