* * * B
This poorly reviewed spy thriller starring Jennifer “Katniss” Lawrence as Dominica Egorova, a Russian dancer who is pressured by her uncle Vanya into joining the FSB, the Russian CIA, is actually very enjoyable. She is sent to seduce CIA agent Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton) to determine the name of his contact, a high level mole in the FSB.
There are plenty of twists and turns, and Dominica must go through trials to survive. Lawrence gives a good performance. Edgerton is likable while still believable as a principled spy. They are surrounded with solid supporting performances by Jeremy “Scar” Irons, Charlotte Rampling, and Sakina Jaffrey. If you like spy thrillers, I recommend this one.
