Prodigy is a fantasy/drama about a psychologist, Dr. Fonda (
Richard Neil) who is asked by an old friend (Jolene Andersen) to give an opinion on a prisoner who is under military guard. The prisoner turns out to be a young girl, Ellie (Savannah Liles). Fonda soon discovers that she is highly intelligent, and they begin a cat and mouse game with each other. Adding to the tension, he is given a strict time frame of twenty-four hours in which to reach a breakthrough with her.
Given that the film has a low budget and none of the cast are well known, it is surprisingly good. Liles in particular does a great job as a child actress in a difficult role on which the success of the film depends, and I found Neil to be a convincing protagonist. Andersen stands out as the most believable of the supporting players. While this film didn’t blow me away, I was entertained.
