This installment of Mission Impossible reunites Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) with his crew: the excellent Simon “Scotty” Pegg as Q, Jeremy “Hawkeye” Renner as M, and Ving Rames as Moneypenny. After Alec Baldwin, head of MI5 (I mean the CIA), disbands MI6 (that is, the IMF), the team goes after the nefarious rogue crime organization Specter (sorry, the Syndicate). Parallels to the latest Bond film aside, this movie is entertaining, and I actually enjoyed it more than Specter.

Aided by femme fatale Ilsa Faust, well played by newcomer Rebecca Ferguson, Ethan and company go on the lamb and hunt down the head of the Syndicate, the mysterious “Lane”, adequately played by Sean Harris. There are some spectacular stunts, a great chase scene, and lots of intrigue and plot twists, though I found them quite predictable. While it had none of the dark depth of MI3, it was fun, though likely to be quickly forgotten.
