Mindhunter is a Netflix docudrama that explores the early study of serial killers and development of psychological profiling by the FBI. Agent Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) becomes convinced that the FBI need to learn from academia. He goes on the road with Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) teaching FBI methods to police. They recruit Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), a psychologist, to help them.
The series focuses on the characters, their personal relationships, and their interviews with several serial killers. Occasionally, Ford and Tench get involved with police to solve crimes. The series is slow paced, and the focus is on the characters, not the crimes they are involved in. Based on actual events, it is a period piece, set in the seventies.
