Review of “Jessica Jones” (season 2)

 * * C

Season 2 of Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix continues her story after the events of “Defenders”. Unlike the second season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones season 2 had a single compelling story arc. The side arc involving Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne “Trinity” Moss), which initially didn’t thrill me, had a nice pay off. The series continues to explore Jessica’s conflicted nature and alcoholism, which make her a bit of a depressing but still interesting character.

My biggest problem with the series is similar to my problem with the character of Misty Knight in “Luke Cage”: Jessica’s friend Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor) is unbelievably (to the point of predictability) dumb. Fortunately, her side kick Malcolm (Eka Darville) and new love interest Vido (Kevin Chacon) are fairly well written. There is also a surprise visit from Kilgrave (David “The Doctor” Tennant). All in all, the new season was an enjoyable watch.
