Review of “Interstellar”

*** B

I thought Interstellar was good, but not great. The science in this science fiction movie was weak. Matthew McConaughey performed well in the first thing I’ve seen him in since True Detective, with good support from John Lithgow and Michael Caine. Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon were less convincing as astronauts.

The movie started slowly, but kept my interest. I liked the realism in some parts of the movie (zero gravity, no roaring rockets in vacuum, relativity) and the alien landscapes. I felt the movie really struggled in the third act, and my credulity was really taxed. It was nice to see someone take science fiction seriously, but Nolan’s script wasn’t quite up to the job.
