After watching Hitman: Agent 47, I decided to check ou
t the original Hitman. This film is more of a straight up espionage flick than the sequel. Agent 47 (in this installment, Timothy Olyphant, who played Number 4’s mentor Henri) has a more human personality, but is as asexual as he is in the sequel. He is hired to assassinate the Russian prime minister, then betrayed by the organization he works for.
Intrigue ensues as the FSB, led by Uri Marklov (Robert Knepper, who went on to play the villainous circus master in the ill fated final season of Heroes) and Interpol agent Mike Wittier (Dougray Scott) pursue Agent 47 who leaves a trail of bodies as he tries to get to the bottom of the mystery, dragging the president’s love slave Nika (Olga Kurylenko) along for the ride.
I preferred the sequel, but this film was a moderately entertaining though unexceptional spy flick.
