Extinction is an alien invasion story with a twist. I can’t say a whole lot about the plot without spoiling it, so I won’t. The setting is the near future. Peter (Michael Peña) is a man who has terrifying dreams of an alien invasion. His boss, David (Mike “Luke” Colter) sends him to a doctor. In the waiting room, he meets a man who has similar dreams and claims that the doctor is erasing his memory of them.

I hope its not too much of a spoiler to say that the invasion does indeed happen. Peter and his family escape to the tunnels beneath the city, chased by one of the aliens. His wife Alice (Lizzy Caplan) is badly wounded, and they fall behind David and their children. As the aliens close in, the truth is revealed.

The effects are basic but not bad. I really liked the story. The acting was the weak link in the film, but the plot saved it for me. If you like science fiction in the style of Philip K. Dick, I recommend Extinction.
