It’s been a long time since I last saw
“The Ten Commandments”. Ridley Scott’s epic, “Exodus, Gods and Kings”, is a remake of sorts.
Christian “Batman” Bale is Moses, who is raised as the foster brother of the Pharaoh Rameses (Joel Edgerton). He learns that he is a Hebrew, and is called by Yahweh to save the Hebrew people who have been enslaved in Egypt. If you don’t know the story, I won’t spoil it for you too much.
Acting is decent, writing pretty good. A few things I liked in the original story, like Moses’s staff turning into a snake, were missing. The end of the movie was a lot shorter than The Ten Commandments, effectively making the crossing of the Red Sea the climax of the film, which was a good idea. It stuck to the story fairly well, but I can see why this film didn’t get massive critical acclaim.
