Whenever there’s a sequel to a great movie, I’m always hoping for the best, but my expectations, based on having seen dozens of sequels over the years, is that it won’t live up to the original. Deadpool 2 is one of the rare sequels that does. The film is funny, has some great action sequences, and has a really good story.
Ryan Reynolds is excellent as the wise cracking, unkillable hero. After losing Vanessa (Morena “Inara” Baccarin), he is saved from his grief by Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and becomes the protector of Firefist (Julian Dennison) when the young mutant is targeted by an enigmatic cyborg from the future (Josh “Thanos” Brolin). With the help of his hastily cobbled together X-Force, he sets out to save the boy.
Assuming Disney’s takeover of Twentieth Century Fox goes through, I hope Kevin Feige leaves Deadpool alone, or at least keeps it fairly intact when he brings it into the MCU. Here’s hoping Deadpool 3 is just as good as the first two!
