Mel Gibson is back as John Link, a reformed ex convict trying his best to get along. His missing daughter Lydia (Erin Moriarty) calls him after she gets into trouble with a Mexican drug cartel. The two go on the lamb, running from the cartel. When Link visits a friend in prison to find out why the Mexican’s are after Lydia, the cartel catch up with her. He then risks everything to save her. While not as interesting as “Get the Gringo”, this straightforward action pic is well written and acted. Gibson and Moriarty have solid chemistry, and the story of their reconciliation plays out across the course of the film. More than anything, this is a story of redemption, of a man atoning for his crimes. Solid support is given by William H. Macy and Miguel Sandoval, and by Diego Luna, playing the deceptive villain.
