Along Came a Spider is a loose film adaptation of the first

Alex Cross novel by James Patterson. Cross, played by Morgan Freeman, is a New York police detective who is drawn into the kidnapping of a Senator’s daughter by the kidnapper. He teams up with Jezzie, the head of the secret service detachment at the victim’s school, played by Monica Potter. I’m told the book is excellent; the movie is a run of the mill crime thriller, with one good plot twist. Alex’s affair with Jezzie is completely missing, either because Morgan Freeman is far too old for the part, or because of Hollywood’s aversion to showing black men in relationships with white women. Overall, this film is disappointing, considering how good I’d heard the book was.
