Review of “Iron Fist” (season 1)

I went into “Iron Fist” with low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it’s just because I’m a fan of corny martial arts movies, but I think I liked Danny the best of all of the Defenders. The only Marvel TV series I’ve liked better is
The Punisher. While it has some problems, Iron Fist was a lot of fun.
The story is classic. Danny Rand (Finn Jones) returns from the dead to take his rightful place in his dead father’s company. Where was he all these years? Being trained in Kung Fu by Himalayan monks. He and fellow martial artist Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) go up against our old friends, The Hand, led, as usual, by the inscrutable Madam Gao (Wai Ching Ho).
But Danny, a complete fish out of water, must also deal with his father’s business partner Harold Meachum (David “Faramir” Wenham) and his two children Ward (Tom Pelphrey) and Joy (Jessica Stroup). Along the way, he also meets Clair (Rosario Dawson), the nurse who also appears in the other three Defenders series, and has become the link that ties them together.
The Iron Fist is enjoyable because it has fewer false starts than Jessica Jones or Daredevil Season 2, and Danny is not as overpowered as Luke Cage. Also, for the first time, Danny’s side kick is also a formidable hero in her own right. I thought the ending was a little weak, but it worked as a transition into the next series, The Defenders.
